L.Y. BONNET
This scenography for the Design Parade festival in Hyères showcases the work of Yvon Bonnet, a ceramist who worked in the late 20th century in the Var city. The installation is presented at the Tour des Templiers, a deconsecrated church located at the foot of the hill leading to the famous villa Noailles.
At its summit, the building offers a breathtaking view of the city and its network of roofs covered with tiles typical of the Provençal region. To pay homage to the city that witnessed Bonnet’s work and is now hosting this exhibition, I chose, in a surreal gesture, to present the pieces on a roof built inside the church and covered with tiles. The visitor, having reached the top of the church, then feels that the city is an extension of the scenography, or even the scenography itself.
The use of reclaimed tiles, which will be returned at the end of the event, gives the installation a very limited carbon footprint despite its monumental nature.
This installation was conceived as a conceptual and aesthetic extension of the « Ravel » exhibition held in the same location in 2015. That exhibition, which showcased ceramics, evoked underwater excavations off the coast of the city. This new scenography thus serves as the second part of the same series.
