These gris-gris, or talismans, from Sèvres, offer an opportunity to play with porcelain’s fragility and weightlessness. Miniature vases carefully hand thrown and decorated, then mounted upon solid metal hemispheres.These “Roly-poly” figures granted the opportunity to create a link between the traditional methods of Sèvres and more contemporary techniques. Indeed, even though the body of the figures is hand thrown, the decorative elements were created using a water jet programmed according to digitized designs.
